Description:

The dataset consists of annual tar files (2000-2015) of radar rainfall for the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. The data are processed from the Sterling VA WSR88D radar (KLWX) using the HrdroNEXRAD Processing System. The area covers a latitude range of 38.66 - 39.83 and longitude range of -77.4 to -76.0 (approximately 100km x 100km) with a 1 sqkm grid size. The time step is 15 minute, units are mm/ha. The years 200-2009 are bias corrected (see Smith, J. A., M. L.Baeck, G. Villarini, C. Welty, A. J. Miller, W. F. Krajewski, Analyses of a long-term high-resolution radar rainfall data set for the Baltimore metropolitan region, Water Resources Research, 48, W04504, doi:10.1029/2011WR010641, 2012, for details) The time period 2010 - 2015 are not bias corrected. WE are including a bias value file (Bias_Value_20102015.txt). The format of this file ' YYYY MM DD ntimes biasvalue' where ntimes = number of 15 minute time periods (max=96) available for the bias computation. The biasvalue info is as follows: Total number of raingages for any time period is 54. If the bias value > 3, then we set it 3. I fewer than 5 positive gage - radar pairs (daily accumulation), set the bias to 1. If there are fewer than 80 (out of 96) 15-minute radar fields for a day, set the bias to 1. A day is selected from 12UTC to 12UTC, for example, the bias for 4/11/2011 means 12:00UTC 4/10/2011 to 12:00UTC 4/11/2011.
